Stay cool this summer while camping or hiking

Staying cool in the summer!

It’s the first day of summer, which means that it is hot out there! Down here in the south, the summer is unforgiving. Without taking proper care of yourself, the sun can make the heat downright dangerous for you and your family. While summer definitely makes for some of the best camping all year, it’s important to be wary of staying cool. Here are some tips to make sure you stay safe and comfortable during the summer months!

Camp in the shade: This one is an obvious one. To stay cool, make sure you have a nice place where you can take refuge from the sun. Sometimes you can be lucky and get a shady camping spot. If not, many RVs have pop out awnings that can create some shade. There are also awnings you can buy that will stand up from the ground and give you a shady place to relax in.

The importance of water: When it’s hot outside, you sweat a lot more, which uses up your body’s reserves of fluids. Staying hydrated will keep everything running smoothly so you don’t get sick from the heat. Having a spray bottle filled with water is also a great way to cool yourself off when sitting around in the heat. If you’re near a pool or body of water you can swim in, then swimming is also a great way to cool off.

Keep the heat out of your RV: Try to do as much cooking as you can outside the RV. Grills are a quick and easy way to fire up some food for everyone without compromising your comfort. Limit the direct sunlight that comes into the RV by shutting the blinds and investing in some windshield covers for the front of the RV.
