If you have visited any of Ocean Canyon Properties’ resorts in the past year, you know that we like to have a lot of fun! We have been putting on some fun events for all of our members to enjoy with their friends and family. Aside from our usual daily activities, this year we have hosted the 11th Annual Mountain Lakes Music Festival, the 7th Annual Chili Cook-off and Classic Car Show at Tres Rios, the Abita Springs Crawfish Boil, the Styx River Seafood Fest, Tres Rios Music Festival, and Styx River Oyster Festival! Coming up this weekend are hosting the 12th Annual Mountain Lakes Music Festival. We will be taking lots of pictures and videos, look for #MLRMusicFest on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter! Until then, come hear about our events we have hosted this year.
Last November, we hosted the 11th annual Mountain Lakes Music Festival. The festival showcased local bluegrass musicians as well as bluegrass artists from the south. Included in the festival were picker’s circles, where members and staff members of various experience and talent levels joined together to create music daily before and after the main acts. The festival also included a potluck dinner, a silent auction, and Wednesday night worship. It is a beautiful time of the year to see some music, since the fall foliage is out at full force on the shores of beautiful Lake Guntersville.
In March, we hosted the 7th annual Chili Cook-off and Classic Car Show at Tres Rios, where we had multiple people from across Texas competing to win prizes for their delicious food. The Chili Cook-off submissions included barbecue, salsa, beans, dutch oven bread, a dutch oven open entry, fruit dessert, pork ribs, chicken, pork butt and brisket. In addition to the main event, there was also a mixed-drink competition with bloody mary’s, margaritas, and an open-ended appetizer. Members could sign up to be judges, or wait until after the judging to sample the entries. A great time was had by all and everyone left full and happy. The weekend was put on by local teachers, and all of the proceeds were given to the American Cancer Society.
At the end of April, everyone was ready for summer to arrive! So we decided to celebrate by putting on the Abita Springs Crawfish Boil. Dishes served throughout the festival included sausage and seafood jambalaya, seafood gumbo, and a grand finale crawfish boil complete with corn and potatoes. OCP loves to dance, so we also included musical guests like Eli Seals, The Wagner’s, Night Train, and Lou Renshaw. What a wonderful way to celebrate Louisiana’s culture with a celebration like this! The food was unbelievable, and you won’t want to miss out on it next year.
In August, it was a great time for everyone to gather together for one last hurrah in the summer. Our park manager at Styx River RV Park, Bill Evans, helped us gather together everyone for a Seafood Festival! Featuring freshly shucked oysters, mullet, Bill’s famous hush puppies, fried shark, shrimp, baked beans, and a slew of other delicious eats, everyone was full and happy by the end of the day. We also made sure to bring some entertainment for our guests, so we had the Artie Hopkins Band play us some tunes in the afternoon and in the evening. We can’t wait for next year!
For the first time this September, Tres Rios RV Park hosted their very first music festival. The festival featured many local bands from the Glen Rose area. The festival also featured incredible food cooked by our General Manager at Millwood, Brad Sanford. Our members and guests couldn’t get enough! Every night was filled with wonderful music and dancing. We will be sure to do it again next year.
Earlier this month, we had the Styx River Oyster Festival, with baked, fried, and raw oysters on the half shell, along with a multitude of other local seafood treats. The day also featured local music. There was hardly any food left at the end of the day. Styx River RV Park is so lucky to be so close to the gulf and all the delicious food it offers.
Now here we are, almost in November, and we are gearing up for 12th the Mountain Lakes Music Festival. It is our most popular member event. Come join us November 3rd through the 9th and see how much fun we have here at Ocean Canyon! We are excited to have you.
